“The inmates remaining at Guantanamo are the worst of the worst and need to remain where they are so they cannot return to the battlefield and attack us once again,” the statement said, according to The Hill.
Announcing on Monday, the Pentagon said it had transferred detainee Shawqi Awad Balzuhair to Cape Verde over the weekend, which left only 59 prisoners behind. Balzuhair was also deemed a high risk and “likely to pose a threat” to the U.S., its interests and allies, reported The Hill.

Since Obama has always been worried about his agenda more than anything else, his attempt to release as many detainees as possible before Donald Trump enters the White House is just more proof that he is putting his own interests ahead of the safety of Americans.
